Sometimes a good way of looking at things is to turn them on their heads. Or by standing on yours, of course, but at my age that’s a little more tricky; things might fall out, not a pretty picture…
It can really help liberate some upside down insights which, when turned back the right way up, can make a lot of sense.

So let’s turn Richard Branson’s quote on its head. Imagine (if) your business (could be summed up) thus:
- It’s not evolving or adapting; in fact, you haven’t really innovated or make any noteworthy changes for years;
- It’s damned hard work; you’re approaching burn- or bore-out; you dread the alarm clock; you wish you could be doing something else;
- You live for home-time, your rare weekends, your all too seldom escape into your hobbies, you regret past choices…
Yikes, when it’s put like that, it paints a pretty grim scenario, for the business and for you too. We owe it to ourselves to be spending as many of our working hours as we can in creative, evolving and yes, even fun activities.
If that smacks of irreality to you, well life itself is pretty unreal when you think about it.
Most forward-thinking people these days agree that we can, to an extent, create our own futures, and certainly that actions tend to have consequences.
So, not to drag this out, I encourage you to take the actions necessary in your business, and why not your life, to move things on, away from what’s not so good and towards the way you would like things to be.
Working in an constantly changing environment is exciting and challenging; letting your creative juices flow is immensely satisfying; and having fun is, well, what’s better than that?
And what’s more, of course, if you don’t to any of the above, you and your business are likely to live less than optimal lives. Not such fun.
