Sabisms 3 ~ ‘Pretty Smart, Huh?’

I’ve often felt I’ve been the smartest person in the room… no! Just kidding ? BUT, if  you do get that feeling from time to time, tend to think you’re suffering fools ungladly on a far too regular basis, or quite simply can’t be bothered discussing what the temperature may or may not be tomorrow, then maybe it’s time to get a change of air, weather permitting…

If you’re the smartest person
in the room, then you’re in
the wrong room.

Surrounding yourself with clever people sounds like a great idea on paper, but what exactly do we mean by ‘smart’?

IQ tests are a pretty ropy way of judging someone’s intelligence, because first of all you have to agree on what intelligence actually is. If it’s basically doing well at IQ tests then it’s become a self-fulfilling prophesy and we can all pack up our thoughts and trundle home with our brains between our legs here and now.

If, on the other hand, you prefer your definition of ‘intelligence’ or ‘(street) smart’ to include characteristics such as being well-liked or a great communicator or having a large amount of money or sharing the most with others, then the common or garden definition of clever might be found rather lacking.

Personally, I define ‘smart’ as meaning people who have achieved something I myself would like to achieve. This could be writing a book or running a business or even painting pictures or producing music that moves others. For that last one though I know my limits and wouldn’t want to put you through that…

One of the best, best but BEST (i.e. smartest) ways of doing this is… to read. Which is what you’re doing right now. See what I did there – pretty smart huh? 😉

P.S. I was curious about the IQ test in my early 20s and decided to give it a go. I got a great score! I was intelligent! How? Coz I was smart enough to buy a book of tests and practise beforehand, he he…
