Some people believe shit happens, and they’re right. But that doesn’t mean we don’t have control over our future and the ability to mould it to a great extent.

Personally, I like the idea that I can set the controls of my personal spaceship to a destination of my choosing, with a reasonably good chance of getting there.
Remembering Major Tom, on the day his creator, David Bowie, died, he said:
For here
Am I sitting in a tin can
Far above the world
Planet Earth is blue
And there’s nothing I can do
For Bowie’s ill-fated astronaut there was indeed little hope, but down here on our watery sphere, ‘far above the moon’, I’m a little more optimistic.
Whilst the Thin White Duke may have sung “Children round the world, put camel shit on the walls’, revealing his more sombre side, he also wrote,
Dont’ let me hear you say life’s
Taking you nowhere, angel
Come get up my baby
Look at that sky, life’s begun
Nights are warm and the days are young
I was fascinated by this song – Golden Years – as a kid, and its magically nostalgic feel and positive (?) message has stayed with me since then. As has an admiration of Bowie’s invention of his own future through his many artistic guises and curious personae.
If ‘Shit happens’ could be seen as somewhat Taoist in approach, ‘That’s MY shit!’ as Capitalistic, ‘It’s everybody’s shit’ as Communistic, ‘I’m the shit!’ as Narcissistic, and ‘Let’s smoke this shit!’ as Rastafarianistic… then ‘Make shit happen’, or even ‘Let’s create some serious shit!’ has to be our credo here at Creative Business Mind, right? And when all’s said and done…
